Fancy an affordable and easy going retro looking Scrambler? The Mash Dirt Track 650 is a serious contender to consider!
One of the best sounding single cylinder machines out there. The 657cc air-cooled unit makes a fair 40 bhp at 6,000 rpm but doesn't feel sluggish. Very lighweight chassis (163kg dry weight), slim tyres and an up-right seating position makes it very easy to handle on the go.
But the tall seat height is not for everyone. The mid controls sit quite high as well to provide just enough clearance and confidence for new riders.
Although I think the combination between the suspension set-up and wheelbase isn't perfect for either on the road or off-road. The ability to flick the Dirt Track 650 about is surreal, thanks to the 17 inch wheels.
But again the knobbly tyres promote an off-road focus when in reality this is a much better road bike than you'd think.
At the front the 41mm USD forks are non adjustable and quite soft. They sink a lot when braking hard, while at the rear the dual shock set-up feels pretty basic but it has preload adjustability.
I was hoping for better stability overall but I found the little Scrambler a little too jumpy at times, perhaps a bit of tweaking could make a difference.
The brakes are decent though. At the front the single 320 mm disc offers good stopping power and at the rear the 240 mm disc is good enough for the road.
The transmission works pretty well, but it is a little vague. There's no gear position indicator on the modern looking dash. But that's not all, you can't really tell which gear you're in most of the times. It has a bit of an infinite feel to it, where going down to second gear feels like going into first and first feels like neutral?! Oh and it will go up to infinite gears also, such a joy to use!
Other than that I loved the low down grunt and readiness of this engine. Decent power for everyday riding combined with an awesome exhaust note.
This Mash Dirt Track 650 might just be the one for you.
Did I mention it's for sale for only £4,250 at Bolton Motorcycles? A real eye turner and great value for money. Perfect if you're a beginner rider or if you're just looking for an affordable bike for your next custom project!
