Harley-Davidson took a really good look around its range and finally added a much needed higher capacity bike in the Sportster Iron range.
The result is the Iron 1200, a faster but still easy to live with Sportster.

The Evolution engine has got bags of character and it sure made my first ride very exciting.
The 1202cc air cooled unit is a V-Twin classic that shakes around and just makes you feel alive. The sound is pretty good and throaty but this bike can definitely do with a slip-on exhaust to really give it that Harley sound.

But I absolutely loved every second riding this bike. It's nothing like the old Harleys where you can barely go around corners. You can ride the Iron 1200 pretty swiftly, just be careful not to lean too much or you'll drag the pegs a bit.
The chassis, brakes and suspensions are identical to the little 883 Iron so you'll find a conventional 39mm fork at the front with 92mm travel.
At the back the twin shocks are preload adjustable with 41mm travel.
There's a single 300mm disc brake at the front with a dual piston caliper and a single 260mm disc brake at the back with a dual piston caliper as well.
Braking power is pretty good but you really have to give the lever a good squeeze. Obviously the bike weighs almost 250 kg so that definitely has something to do with how quickly you can come to a stop. So keep that in mind.
Around town, from traffic light to street corner is really where this bike should spend most of its life. It really excels in doing that.
The wind protection was actually pretty decent given the bike was only equipped with a tiny cafe racer style screen. Visibility is good as well even though you're sitting quite low.
I love the set-up of the mini ape handlebars and forward controls, this Iron 1200 is definitely way more comfortable than stock. I could see going for a 3-4 hours trip with no trouble at all.

This stunning Billiard Blue Iron 1200 comes with a quick release sissy bar, rear rack, white wall tyres, forward controls and a tank pad. So I'd do nothing more than upgrade the seat to a more comfortable one and add a slip-on exhaust.
